The Macallan 1926 Whiskey Set World Record with $1.2 Million Sale in Dubai
Two extremely rare bottles of Scotch whisky “The Macallan 1926” has broken the world record with a $1.2 Million sale price in Dubai. The 2 bottles were sold by Le Clos, Dubai-Airport luxury spirits retailer to an international businessman for $600,000 each.

The Macallan 1926 was distilled in 1926 and aged for 60 years in sherry-seasoned oak barrels before being bottled and released in 1986. Only 40 bottles of The Macallan 1926 were produced. The 2 whiskey sold are are labelled with the original artworks by renowned artists Sir Peter Blake and Valerio Adami. Sir Peter Blake, is a British artist famed for co-creating the Beatles’ album cover for Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Valerio Adami, an Italian artist and one of the most acclaimed pop artists of the 21st century. 12 bottles were given to Sir Peter Blake and Valerio Adami each, making The Macallan 1926 highly sought after by art-lovers and whisky collectors alike.
Each bottle was originally retailed at around $27,000 and the last known sale was in 2007 at Christie’s for $75,000. The rare bottles are presented in cabinets, or tantaluses, and are based on the ‘brass and glass’ distillery spirit safe designs.
The Macallan distillery also holds the record for most expensive whisky bottle sold at auction, with “The Macallan M Imperiale” fetching $628,000 in an auction at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in 2014.
