Barbara Pierce Bush, the former of US first lady of United States’ 41st President, George HW Bush (1989-1993) and mother of United States’ 43rd President, George Bush (2001-2009) has died at the age of 92 on 17th April 2018. Her health had been declining for some time and she had decided to discontinue her medical treatment.

Barbara Pierce Bush is one of only two women, whose husband and son became the President of United States. She has 6 children, including Jeb Bush, who had served as governor of Florida in United States and became a presidential candidate in 2016.
As the first lady of United States’ 41st President, she elevated the cause of literacy, founding the non-profit Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. She promoted women’s right and went against Republican Party Politics with her liberal view on abortion right and initiated a debate on gender equality in 1990 at Wellesley College, and is confident about the possibility of a female United States’ President.
Born in 1952, Barbara grew up in Rye, New York, and attended prep school at Ashley Hall in Charleston, South Carolina. She met George HW Bush in 1941 married in 1945. Barbara had dropped out of Smith College, and in 1989, the college awarded her an honorary degree. She is survived by her husband, 5 children, and grandchildren.
