Bluefin Tuna sold for $322,660 at Tsukiji Market in Tokyo

A Bluefin Tuna weighing 405kg was sold for $322,6000 (JPY 36.5 million) at the New Year’s auction at the famous Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo.  The winning bidder is LEOC Co-Chairman, CEO & President Hiroshi Onodera, who runs a chain of sushi restaurants.

The record winning bid for Bluefin Tuna was $1.37 million (JPY155.4 million) in 2013.  Bluefin Tuna (Maguro) is one of the most sought fish in Japanese cusine.  On 5th January 2017, the USDJPY exchange rate is 113.08 ($100,000 = JPY 11,308,000).
