Portrait of Chairman Mao Sold for $11 Million

An Andy Warhol portrait of Chairman Mao has been sold in Hong Kong for $11m in the sale at Sotheby’s on Sunday or $12.6m after tax and fees. The painting was bought by an unnamed Asian collector.

Andy Warhol started painting his series of silk screen portraits of Chairman Mao in 1972 when ties between China and United States became better after U.S President Richard Nixon historic trip to Beijing.
