Tokyo is Now the Most Expensive City for Expatriates
Tokyo is now the world’s most expensive city for expatriates for the first time since 2012 due to increase in yen. London fell out after the Brexit caused the pound to decline. Tokyo jumped from 12th last year. Hong Kong has fallen from 11th to 9th, whilst Zurich fell from top spot to 3rd. This report is done by ECA International.

The estimates are based on cost of of living surveys using a basket of goods and services ranging from food to rent and utility charges. The yen has soared 19% in the past 1 year through September and has one of the biggest gain amongst the currencies.
